GlympseĪre you ever on your way to meet someone and you realize you’re going to be five minutes late? Or maybe you’re actually going to be early and you knew they wanted to meet earlier all along? Maybe you responsibly pull over and send a text, but then either traffic clears up and you won’t be late, or you realize you forgot to pick up a bottle of wine so you’ll be on time after all – do you stop and send another text? This seems to happen to me all the time. I’m really looking forward to listening to these shows – all the fun of a NosillaCast but with none of the work! Remember to send them audio reviews so they don’t have to work so hard! Enough about the upcoming shows, let’s dig into this week’s show. Well this is the last show I’m going to do for a month but I’m leaving you in good hands with Bart, Katie and Allister bringing you some good tech fun while we’re gone. Today is Saturday Februand this is show number 459. Hi this is Allison Sheridan of the NosillaCast Mac Podcast, hosted at, a technology geek podcast with an EVER so slight Macintosh bias. In Chit Chat Across the Pond Bart reviews three geeky weather apps with Dark Skies for iOS, Meteo Earth for iPhone, iPad and OSX, and finally WeatherPro for iPhone and iPad. Bott: RokForm Rokbed case for the rugged look, Di Alcantara for the suede classy style, Adopted Leather Wrap Case for a real leather case, and the Incipio Stashback case to carry your credit cards and driver’s license. StopKnot from to prevent headphone earbud tangles. In Dumb Question Corner, Peter Boots asks (and gets his answers) how to assign commands to function keys, and if there’s a way to use the iOS functionality for keyboard shortcuts in Mavericks. A three-month premium subscription will cost you $1.99 via in-app purchase, or you can pay $5.99 for 12 months of ad-free viewing and additional features.Glympse from to let your friends know when you’ll arrive. MeteoEarth is a free download for the iPhone and iPad on the App Store. MeteoEarth brings the weather to life using high-end gaming technology and extraordinary graphics. Other features of the app include access to thousands of live weather webcams around the world and the ability to pause, rewind, and move forward in time for a 24-hour forecast. The app supports connectivity to Apple TV, allowing you to display your weather map on your big screen television. MeteoEarth is a gorgeous app, and its beauty is not limited just to your iPhone or iPad. The premium subscription also unlocks extended five-day forecasts and the option of viewing wind conditions at any altitude, all the way up to the jet stream. However, MeteoEarth has provided users with a way to turn the ads off, either by opting out of the free premium features or by making an in-app purchase for a subscription to all of MeteoEarth’s apps. Of course, free is never completely free, so you’ll have to suffer through in-app advertisements to keep the premium features active. The app, now free, unlocks several advanced premium features that you previously needed a subscription for, giving you access to such functions as displaying multiple layers at once (temperature, precipitation, etc.), access to a storm tracker, and the ability to check water temperatures around the world. We’ve reviewed the app previously, but that was when the app cost $4.99 just to download. MeteoEarth, adapted from a professional weather broadcast tool used by TV presenters around the world, has recently been updated with new features.
